This course is offered on campus, designed to teach the beginning student both dental clinical and business skills for the general dentist office.We start with an overview and then teach the student the processes in the dental office the way patient flow usually happens.
Orientation to the Profession, Appointment Scheduling, Patient Chart, Dental Insurance, Patient Financing, Dental Software CD utilizing Dentrix, Communication in the Dental Practice, Dental Anatomy, Charting and Odontology, Florida Dental Radiography, which includes Radiation Safety and Dental X-ray Technique, Clinical Orientation, Sterilization and Instrumentation, Dental Equipment & Materials, Chair-side Assisting, Patient Education, Post-Op Instructions, and Pain Management.

BASIC EXPANDED DUTIES DENTAL ASSISTANT :
This course is a residential course, on campus, designed to teach the student the basics of expanded duties. An introduction of how to safely use and place dental materials is demonstrated by the instructor. Typodonts will be used by the students to learn assisting in placement of composites, amalgam, sealants, cements and fabrication of temporary crowns/ bridges. If a student is planning to utilize the skills taught in this course outside of Florida, please check with the state dental board website for rules and regulations governing the use of EDDA in that state.
Patient Isolation, Dental Filling Materials and Placement, Finishing and Polishing, Fabrication of Temporary Crowns and Bridges, Cementation.
Entry-Level Dental Assisting Certificate is awarded by school. Expanded Duties Course, as part of the program, is required before a student may display a separate Expanded Duties Certificate as required by the state of Florida Board of Dentistry. Dental Radiography, as part of the program, is required before a student may seek approval by state of Florida Board of Dentistry for a Radiology Certificate. An additional fee of $35 is charged by the Board of Dentistry.
Clinical externship hours are a required part of a student’s training program. All rules and regulations remain in effect for the duration of clinical externship hours. Students participating in the clinical externships are reminded that they are acting as representatives of IDT, and are expected to maintain their professionalism at all times. Clinical externships are offered during regularly scheduled business hours for the site.
